| LIP
AUGMENTATION
For sexier, poutier lips
Your smile is one of the most important
parts of your face, but thin or uneven lips can diminish all
of your other attractive features. Lip augmentation is a great
way to achieve the memorable smile and kissable lips you have
always wanted.
There are several different types of lip augmentation. The
most common procedures involve the injection of natural or
synthetic substances. Other procedures include the insertion
of implants. The doctor will discuss the different methods
with you to determine the best possible treatment for your
problem.
* If you have small, thin lips, lip augmentation can make
them fuller and sexier.
* Asymmetrical lips can be reshaped with lip augmentation
procedures.
* Lip augmentation can repair damaged lip tissue.
* If your upper lip droops, it can be lifted through lip augmentation.
* Wrinkles around the lips can sometimes be reduced with lip
augmentation.
* Lip augmentation is an outpatient procedure which usually
requires only a local anesthetic. Therefore, you are awake
during the surgery but will experience no pain. In some cases,
a sedative is given which will make you to sleep for the duration
of the procedure.
* You may go home and resume normal activities the same day,
but if you are given a sedative, you will need someone to
drive you home.
* With injections, a very fine needle is used to deposit the
substance into various locations on your lips.
* For implants, the doctor makes four incisions in the corners
of the lips where the scars can be hidden.
* You will experience tenderness and swelling after the procedure,
which will cause your lips to look larger than they will be
ultimately. The swelling usually disappears within a week,
but the tenderness may remain awhile longer.
* The doctor will prescribe pain medication for you to alleviate
any post-operative discomfort. However, many patients report
surprisingly little pain after the procedure.
* You may experience numbness, which could make it difficult
to eat or drink for a couple of days.
* The stitches will be removed about a week after the procedure.
* If the injection used is one which encourages your body
to produce more collagen in your lips, the desired results
will appear gradually during the weeks following the procedure.
* Some injection substances are temporary, lasting only about
three months, and some are permanent. The doctor will discuss
with you the pros and cons of your various options prior to
the procedure.
* Especially in the case of lip implants, the shape of your
smile may be altered, but the movement of your lips and mouth
will remain very natural.
As with any surgical procedure, there are always risks, but
with lip augmentation, they are unusual. Implants carry more
risk than most injections. While fat injections last slightly
longer than collagen injections, the chance of scars or lumps
is greater. Cold sores, or allergies to the substances or
implants are always a remote possibility.
